SUPERCLUBS CONTINUES RAPID EXPANSION IN LATIN AMERICA
WITH FIRST BRAZILIAN STARFISH PROPERTY
Starfish Santa Luzia Opens Late 2007
KINGSTON, JAMAICA, April 30, 2007 – SuperClubs unveiled plans today for a 203-room hotel in Sergipe, Brazil’s smallest state on the Atlantic’s northeast coast. Starfish Santa Luzia is located on the estuary island of Santa Luzia, home to the famed beaches of Atalaia Nova, with easy bridge access to the port capital of Aracaju.
As SuperClubs’ first Starfish in Brazil, following the launch of this affiliate brand in 2002 with Starfish Trelawny in Jamaica, this family-friendly all-inclusive resort is slated to open its doors in late 2007. It will feature three restaurants, including Italian, Japanese and Continental dining, an intimate spa and a vibrant Kids Center. Extensive conference facilities will appeal to the groups, meetings and conventions market, with eight separate meeting rooms and the ability to cater functions for up to 1,600 people.
“Latin America, and particularly Brazil, is a booming destination for us, and one that has become increasingly popular among North Americans,” said John Issa, executive chairman, SuperClubs Resorts. “This latest acquisition steps up our pace of expansion in this market, which we first entered in 2000 with Breezes Costa Do Sauipe in Bahia, then our first resort outside the Caribbean. Seven years later, we have three resorts in the hopper and are managing two Sonesta city hotels.”
Just five months ago, SuperClubs announced its first Panama resort, the 300-room Breezes resort near Playa Blanca in the luxury coastal community of Bijao in the Coclé province. Ground breaking commenced this year, with the resort slated to open its doors in mid-2008.
Work also began earlier this year on the ground breaking of the 330-room Breezes Buzios Resort in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Located on Rio’s famed beach town, this sprawling hideaway features an ambitious master plan that includes 110 villas, spa, mini golf course, and convention facilities, due to open in 2009.
Through a master franchise agreement with Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, SuperClubs currently manages Sonesta Sao Paulo and Sonesta Brasilia.
